Mike Doyle writes...
My journey with Tom and Karen began in 2008, with my wife meeting them on the missions trip to Reynosa, which was covered in the book. She excitedly shared with me this wonderful family she had met and was filled with anticipation for me to meet them as well. Fast forwarding, we have since declared the Schlindweins our best friends in the entire world and a gift from God. Their lives, including the lives of Mali and Joe have ministered to Lisa and I and our children beyond measure.
This book highlighted some things we had known about them but so much more that we couldn't have known without God`s intervention in telling this story. I was so emotionally moved and spiritually uplifted by the words on these pages. This is a brilliant must read! It is by the grace of God that this story has made it to print and it is a story of a journey of faith and trust in the promises of God`s love. The parallels of this story with the grace of God through Christ Jesus, in his life death and resurrection are poignant. In Galatians 4:4-7 we see the story of adoption as accounted by the Apostle Paul when he states: "But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father! So you are no longer a slave, but a son,and if a son, then an heir through God."
I pray this story makes it to the ears of those who despair, of those whose hope and faith are shaken, that they may know that there is a God who hears their cry and seeks their worship and loves their soul. While not all stories will have the same glorious outcome, we can know that we serve a God who promises to never leave nor forsake us.
I thank God for the Schlindwein family and the love they share with the lives they touch. Sola Deo Gloria!

Adoption & Beyond writes...
This book of letters is wonderful for any would-be adoptive parents or parents who have already adopted. The family’s journey from infertility to adoption will resonate with many parents who have faced or are facing the same struggle. Karen Schlindwein describes this struggle and her family’s road to adoption in a moving memoir.

Clare Braband writes...
DEAR LOIS is a heartwarming, heart-wrenching story of truth and love. Life is filled with ups and downs, and with the good, the bad, and the ugly. DEAR LOIS shares those moments in a conversational and endearing format. Karen and Mali share with us the hope that carried them through this season of their lives. You will be encouraged by their story!

Renee Hitt writes...
This book is the definition of unconditional love.
It is the perfect example of the journey to parenthood. I recommend this journal to those contemplating adoption or those who have gone through the adoption Process.
God bless Karen and Mali for sharing their story.

Moira Wolf writes...
Wow! It seems like just yesterday 'Dear Lois' was just a thought! If you don't know Karen and Mali personally, you will feel like you do after reading this book. Not only is 'Dear Lois' well written, it also grasps into the audiences' hearts. The book really highlights a lot of the angles of adoption that outsiders do not see, and shows that anything is possible with a little faith, hope, and love! Thank you Karen and Amalie for sharing your journey with us!

Kim Thomas writes...
After reading this book it is obvious to me that anyone that will be adopting a child would be well served to read this book.

I sincerely believe that when you are adopting you are very emotional and can't realize the many people that are affected by this process. This book not only shows that from the many views and stories it holds, but it gives very special insights from all those people either with memories written and also in letters written.

It gives the reader a chance to experience the actually process and then understand what the feelings of all persons involved was through the many years until the adoptee is actually grown and an adult.

Very honest, emotional, real insight to this very important process for couples that want to adopt a child for any reason; as well as a wonderful read for all those involved around these two people... affects so many people .... no one stops to think how many.

Recommend highly - very REAL!

Linda Oberbrunner writes...
This tender story has many contributors in addition to the main authors, Karen and daughter Amalie Bowling, which makes it so appealing to all members of the adoption triad. Amalie and her husband, Jason, have a desire to use the proceeds from the sale of this book to fund a ministry called “Chosen”.

All the families involved in the 155 pages of this unique book, have grown even closer together as God has revealed so many things through the unexpected challenges in life so that hopefully even more lives will be “regenerated.”

Susan Hubbell writes...
This is a rare intimate look at love and loss that is the circle of adoption. The letters give a visual picture of ongoing relationship and how significant it was to both women. As an adoption professional I would recommend it for all families to read.

Nicki writes...
It is a most beautiful memorial and tribute to the path that you and Tom have traveled and a wonderful beginning and full circle to establishing "Chosen".

Jane Jacobs writes...

Where to begin? Dear Lois is one of the very most uplifting, inspired books I've ever had the privilege of reading. Each thoughtful letter and every touching chapter was awesome.

I shall always remember the heartfelt words you've written here. And I pray this one-of-a-kind emotional read will be a success for you. "What happens when we live God's way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard." Galatians 5:22

Inspiring story - I'm grateful I had the opportunity to read Dear Lois. This very personal and detailed journey was well-written to the point you could feel the pain, sadness, happiness, and pride of all involved. I especially enjoyed the pictures included in the book, but I wish they were all captioned. Dear Lois would be a helpful and inspiring tool for anyone dealing with infertility, considering adoption, or considering re-connecting to their past. Congratulations to Karen and Mali on a wonderful accomplishment!

Nancy Metzler writes...
Thoughtful story on infertility, adoption and the love of a family - Karen and Amalie, Thanks for sharing your story in this thoughtful way. The book is well written and it gives the reader a unique insight into the journey of infertility and adoption. It is clear in reading the book that both Amalie and Joe are so truly loved and cherished. It was fun to read the annual letters about Amalie and see how she changed through the years - what a wonderful gift to be able to go back and relive those years through the letters that you sent to Lois. Thank you again for sharing your story, it was a delightful book to read.

Stephanie B writes...
The moment I opened the package and seen it was my copy of Dear Lois, I couldn't put it down. The story of this adoption journey touches your soul and opens your eyes to all perspectives of those involved in adoption. The gift that was given to Karen has now come full circle as a gift for loved ones of Lois to cherish in reading how that selfless choice she made 23 years ago captures the true essence of who she was and who we all carry in our hearts today. I will highly recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with infertility, miscarriages and considering adoption. If I had to choose one word that best describes this story it would be ASTONISHING!!

Jenaya Nieman writes...
It's simply Beautiful! - As most will see I am Lois' daughter, Jenaya and therefore already knew the "story" behind the adoption. However, this book was SO MUCH MORE! It's about a husband and wife who battle infertility, miscarriage, heartache, coping, adoption and faith. It's about learning how to cope and move forward to work hard for your dreams - without letting anything stop you. It's truly inspirational! I wish I would have read this book while I was dealing with infertility myself because Karen touches on so many of the emotions going on during that time and it would have really helped me get through it. I enjoyed reading about the other peoples points of views and how it has effected each one of us. I recommend this book to anyone dealing with infertility, miscarriage, defeat, faith and of course considering adoption. Beautiful story by beautiful people!

Jason writes...
Inspiring Adoption Story - Dear Lois is a unique and heartwarming story of faith and family. Starting with the struggles of infertility and experiencing one families journey to become just that is one that many readers will enjoy. This story will deeply resonate with anyone who has been touched by adoption.

Karen H writes...
This book is very-well written and takes the reader down the emotional journey from infertility to parenthood and is so transparent as it shares the perspective from many different vantage points. I would recommend this book to those in the midst of the infertility process, anyone considering adoption, any family or friends of couples walking this road, birth parents, adopted children, and many more. Well done!

Stephanie Drewa writes...
What a touching story and so beautifully written!

Janelle Boyum writes...
A wonderful book sharing all the different aspects of adoption. I am not a great reader, it takes me months to finish a book, but not this one. I began the book and couldn't put it down. I laughed and cried. If you are interested in learning about adoption this is the book for you. I would recommend it.

Deborah writes...
It is past time for this story to be written. This is the beautiful account of the affects of adoption on the birth family, the adopted child, and the adoptive family. Moving. Compelling. Challenging. Adoption needs to be talked of more and needs to be made more of an option. Lois gave such an amazing gift that drastically changed the lives of so many people. Now the story of her gift will change even more lives.

Lisa Mallwitz writes...
A very well written, intimate account of lives changed and interwoven through the blessing of adoption. I learned so much from this family's experiences, perspectives, struggles and testimonies. I also appreciated the inter-generational, male and female contributions to this book. Everyone's voice was inspiring! A very captivating read...I didn't want to put it down!

Myrna mae roiger writes...
The book was awesome .. I couldn't put it down that good.

Jennifer Knigge writes...
A beautifully written insight into a families very personal journey. This book is for everyone! It proves that families can come in many forms! Loved the yearly letters written with love to the birth mother. Heartfelt and touching...I highly recommend this read.

Lisa Doyle writes...
The impact of love. When you read this book it is obvious the beauty of human lives being interwoven and affecting one another. The love between parent and child from the desire to have one, the knowledge of not being able to conceive one, the impact of losing one, the choice to give life to one when your own life would struggle to sustain it, and the wisdom and selflessness of endowing that child to another family; unfolding the life long betterment to every person involved.

We are afforded the transparency of one families journey into this very experience. Their acquaintance with loss and hope are bared within the covers of this book.

We connect with them on every level and get to enjoy what adoption unfolds into. This is truly a wonderful read given to us by two very thoughtful authors who have a great deal of love and respect for the woman who changed their lives as well as their Creator who wove it all together.

Stephanie Bosley writes...
I had to finish the book once I started it. The gifts that the birth Mom's bestowed on your family is precious, as is now this gift of showing the perspective of all sides. It was also amazing to see the true essence of Lois shown through this in telling the story of your journey. I was blessed to have known Lois and to have looked to her as a motherly figure in my life, she was always there when I needed her. I am looking forward to hear about this new journey as it continues with Chosen.

Judy B writes...
What a moving journey to and through parenthood and a deeper faith in God!

Dear Lois is inspirational, emotional, heart-wrenching, and spiritual. Lois and Ruth, no doubt, had divine intervention in choosing Karen and Tom to present with the most precious gifts humanly possible. And Mali and Joe were the benefactors of wonderful, caring parents chosen especially for them. For those of us who have not traveled the journey of adoption, it broadens our understanding of who “real parents” are.

For those considering adoption, it may be the perfect “how to” book. Thank you, Karen and Amalie, for sharing your story with us.

Carol J writes...
Wonderful story of the journey of adoption through
faith and patience. Thanks for sharing it.

Joel Matheson writes...
Karen Schlindwein shares her story clearly and with great emotion. Her description of infertility and miscarriage should not quietly be endured but celebrated. As we read Dear Lois, we feel a couples’ heartbeat longingly for a family. Just a heartbeat away, God was working in grace. I was blessed to see God’s grace filled hand throughout her story. I give this book a five star.

Ann Thoma writes...
This is a story of God's faithfulness to grow a beautiful family, through adoption. The Schlindweins are a family who rely on God and their faith. They are honest about their fears, disappointments, joys and triumphs. You will see that those who adopt and those who are adopted are receiving a tremendous blessing, a privilege exemplified by our adoption into God's family.

It is an amazing and beautiful story. A must read!

Five stars, of course!

Pat A writes...
I feel Dear Lois is a must read for any mother or parent thinking about placing a child up (for adoption). There are so many people looking to adopt a child for many reasons. This book not only tells the story of Tom and Karen being unable to conceive but
the compassion they have for the mother who placed her child with them.

If you are that mother anticipating what you should do with an unplanned pregnancy, instead of abortion seriously consider looking into finding a group that will help you find a family for your baby. It meant the world to Lois to receive a letter every year from Tom and Karen. It doesn't mean every birth mother wants to know what is going on in their child’s life but just imagine if you are the birth mother that does; how special that letter would be to you.

How do I know what I am talking about? Because Lois was my best friend and Tom and Karen are my cousins. I definitely give this book 5 stars!

Ron G writes...
This is a story about a journey of 3 families and adoption. The father was one of my students at Dubuque Wahlert. This story is about his adopted daughter and her journey. Pretty impressive.

Linda Helling writes...
What a great book! This book made me laugh, cry, and be thankful. Lois was my oldest sister and I was an at-home mommy and I was so excited when she asked me to be with her in the delivery room! Lois was such a strong person, stronger than many would ever know. When the letters came it was such a great time for her and her family knowing she made another family so happy. It was great to know baby was being brought up by such great parents! Great book for all to read!

Jen kuester writes...
Absolutely loved this book!!! This book really opened my eyes to what some families go through to start their family. It was really neat to be able to see both sides of this family. I highly recommend this book everyone!!

Kim Wood writes...
Adoption is such a true blessing!!! Read, laugh and cry!

Lisa Haskamp writes...
Awesome book! I read the entire book in one day; you see, I'm Lois's youngest sister and I remember asking her every Christmas if she received a "letter" yet this year. I was very happy to see that Lois kept all these wonderful letters, because I knew how important they were to her, Bryan and Jenaya.

Even though, Dear Lois, had those letters and pictures of my sister, there was also some very important information that really touched my heart while reading the book. I, myself, was blessed with two beautiful child and never had to struggle at all with getting pregnant. After reading Dear Lois, it really opened my eyes as to what some families go through when they have troubles - wow, thank you God! The story shares all the family fun that Karen and Tom had with Mali and Joe and I could feel the love and happiness.

I know sister Lois is looking down from Heaven with a smile on her face, shaking her head, not believing there is a book written about her and how many lives she has touched.

R.I.P. my "Dear Lois"; we have a beautiful angel watching over us helping all of our dreams come true.

Jan Nickels writes...
Karen and Mali I want to thank you also for sharing your journey in such an open and transparent way... giving all the glory to God! My heart was touched, as I am sure all others were! You are a beautiful Mother/daughter team and I am sure the Lord will use your knowledge, wisdom and love for Him to educate, train and lead many to Him!!

There is no doubt that I would give your book 5 stars. It's the gratefulness of caring so deeply for the heart of the person that God used to make your family and sharing His love that makes your book so beautiful to me.

I especially love how you wrote of your visit to Lois... "You had come to Lois with empty arms and Lois filled them with Mali." What an awesome picture of how the Lord meets the desire and need of our hearts!

God bless you both and the ministry that He has placed on your hearts.

Judy Guyette writes...
This book is an amazing story of an adoption and the journey that was taken by these families over the years. What a beautiful picture of God's love and grace to both the adoptive and the biological families.
In the journey of infertility, abundant blessings were reaped by all.

This book is an amazing story!

Erin Bubolz writes...
What a lovely story that gives true perspective on the emotions of adoption. It is enlightening and heartwarming all around. I think it will be such a wonderful read for so many families that can empathize in this chapter of their life, and to family and friends the same. Karen and Amalie, you - and your family - are blessed.

Lea Bombard writes...
Great book with a great message. To see what a family goes thru while trying to have children is heartbreaking considering I had such an easy time. I have a dear friend who is facing struggles of becoming a mother and this book gives me hope for her!

Megan Freshwater writes...
Reading this book brought me pure joy! I am so blessed and honored to know these two beautiful women and share some of Amalie's childhood memories. Karen will always be my second mom and Mali will always be one of my closest friends. Adoption made these life long relationships possible and for that I will always be grateful to Lois. Adoption is such a beautiful thing and this book exemplifies that in such a way that gives all the praise and glory to the Almighty Savior Jesus Christ. Your heart will be so full of love after reading about how these families had such unconditional love and respect for each other. I would recommend this book to anyone who has or will be touched by the amazing gift of adoption.
